Sources of Financial Aid

There are four primary sources of financial aid.

Private: Funds provided by private sources are typically targeted for specific careers or have ties to special interest groups. Sources include foundations, professional organizations, religious organizations, civic clubs and businesses.

Institutional: Funds provided by individual educational institutions and coordinated through their financial aid office.

State: Government funds made available by legal mandate and coordinated by state agencies such as the State Department of Education.

Federal: Government funds made available by legal mandate and coordinated by federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Education and the Bureau of Health Professions in the Department of Health and Human Services.
